We are so proud of our WSMS harriers for their great racing yesterday! We could not have asked for
better weather conditions. We had some fierce battles in each division, so it was a lot of fun to watch
as our kids reached new PRs and achieved their goals. Next week will be the final showdown and the
District championship. We will get info out on that later this week.

WSMS Girls XC Results
I was so happy with the way ALL of the kids ran yesterday in Rockwall! That is a pretty tough course
with a lot of hairpin turns and a LOOOOONG uphill. They did a great job of warming up as a team,
representing our school with class, and racing as hard as they could. We were able to win all 4 team
divisions — which was the goal! We will practice Thursday at 7:30, but no practice on Friday. See
the schedule at the bottom of the email for training over Thanksgiving Break. Please make sure your
runner gets in as many quality training days as possible. I know this can be tricky if you are
traveling, but we want to come back from the break ready to win 2 more meets! We will only have 1 more
full week of training and 2 races left.
The kids also ran really well today in the Turkey Trot and showed WSMS how their hard work and
training pays off! We had the top finisher for each grade: Will Carlson 7th boys, Savannah Smith 7th
girls, Kailey Littlefield 8th girls, and Andrew Poulton 8th boys. I'm not sure about 8th grade yet,
but I know we had the top 5 finishers for both the 7th grade boys and girls!! Fun!!
All kids will report to the cafeteria at 2:15 — we will have an announcement made to
excuse them from 5th period and report.
We will meet with kids to go over meet procedures, expectations, and racing strategies. They will then
get changed and meet us at the track to prepare for the race.
Your runner will need to check out with Coach Coonrod at the finish line if they are NOT riding the
bus back from the meet. Please fill out the TRAVEL RELEASE FORM and send it
with your child or email it back to me. This should be done prior to Tuesday. Thanks for your help
with this.
Meet Day Attire:
Students should NOT wear their uniforms to school. They will change during 8th period. I encourage
ALL athletes to wear their LOVEJOY CROSS COUNTRY SHIRT and their warm-up jacket to school on
Tuesday. If they do not have the cross country one — just any Lovejoy shirt will work.
They need to have their racing uniform, and they should be covered with long pants and a warm top to
warm-up. We prefer they have black pants and a Lovejoy top, but the most important thing is that
they have warm gear to cover up.
Race Attire:
If it is going to be cold, kids are allowed to race with black or white tights under their shorts
and they may also wear black or white long sleeves underneath their singlet. No sweats or
sweatshirts covering uniform — they will take those off right before the race. Please make
sure your child has warm gear and is prepared for any type of weather.
I would recommend gloves and head gear if they are very sensitive to the cold. Once the race starts,
they will warm up quickly!
Meet Day Meal:
I would recommend having your runner pack a lunch such as a sandwich and fruit. I would also have
them bring a light snack such as granola, power or cliff bars, or anything they can handle snacking
on before racing. Please remind them not to eat a heavy lunch — they will most likely not race
well if they eat things like — chicken nuggets, burritos, chili — you get the idea.

WSMS Boys XC Update 9.23.19
Our middle school boys ran a great race on Saturday! For many of them, this was their first XC race
— and at a very large meet! Our regular season races in November and December are small and easy
compared to this one. Myers Park is a very challenging course. Our boys team placed 2nd overall and our
girls team won the meet!
I am so proud of the way our middle school kids raced on Saturday!! For many of them, this was their
first XC race — and at a huge meet! Our regular season races in November and December are tiny and
easy compared to this one. That is a very challenging course and a lot of kids competing. We had an
awesome day! Pictures of our team hardware are below. Our boys took 2nd overall and our little ladies
took the team title — 1st place!!! (defeating 16 teams — some of those club teams!) These
trophies will look good in the trophy case at WSMS!! 😊
Uniforms
Please wash and return these TOMORROW in a bag with your child's name on the outside
of the bag. (Wal-Mart sack or zip lock bags are perfect.)
I will re-distribute uniforms to ALL runners in November prior to our first District race.
Important Dates
October 3rd — There is a HS Community Glow pep rally at 7 PM at the HS gym. We have been told
that MS athletes will be recognized. That is all the info I have at this time, but I will get more
out to you as it comes to me. It is not mandatory for athletes, but just a fun way for them to be
recognized.
October 21st — We are planning to have our GLOW RUNATHON this evening around 6:30 or 7:00 PM.
I will get info out about this soon ... but please save the date!!!
