I hope everyone will enjoy their Thanksgiving this week. Awesome job to both the boys and girls teams this past week. We dominated all four divisions at our home meet! We have two more meets remaining and this week is a key week in our season. Please make sure your runner runs and completes the workouts on their own as we will not be officially practicing as a team this week. When we return from Thanksgiving break we will race on Tuesday 11.29.22 at Harry Myers Park in Rockwall, TX. Our final meet will be at Willow Springs on 12.6.22 for the District Championship!
On Monday 11.28.22 I will have the high school boys state runner-up team come speak to the middle school runners. Please make sure your runner is in attendance.
Our high school boys team capped off the xc season on Saturday at the Nike South Invitational in the Woodlands, TX. It was a cold and rainy day. A big congrats to the girls team on qualifying for the National Championship in Portland Oregon! The girls finished 2nd in a close battle with 6A Runner-Up Southlake and 6A Champion Flower Mound. Southlake girls won the meet and Flower Mound placed 3rd overall. Lovejoy girls became the first 5A girls team to ever qualify for the national championship from the south region. All other past qualifying teams have all been 6A teams. On the boys side Southlake and Grapevine advanced to the national championship. Our boys team finished 10th overall in the Championship division and the Rising Stars group placed 4th overall. We have a young team and overall placed well at Nike South beating a lot of great teams.
I am sorry that I have not been as involved with Willow Springs this school year. I am teaching at Sloan Creek and my day starts at 7:40 PM. I am hoping my schedule is adjusted next year so that I can be at Willow in the mornings on a daily basis. Please let me know if there is anything you need or that I can do to help you.

I am so proud of our WSMS runners yesterday! We won all 4 divisions! The kids raced so strongly and showed strength and courage. We still have 3 weeks until the district meet on December 6th. It will be the same teams, but we want to hold our ground and maybe even get a few more kids with medals! There were many 8th graders who have shown so much improvement since last year; that is really amazing! We also had a few girls just come in from volleyball, and they are doing great with such little training! Let's keep it up! It will be very important that the kids run over the Thanksgiving break or they will lose fitness. I have included a training plan below. You can tweak it as needed to fit your holiday schedule!
Our 7th grade girls had a 3-way tie for 1st place!! Cross Country is scored based on your top 5 runners' places. You want the lowest score possible. 1st place scores 1 point, 4th place scores 4 points, etc. (a perfect score is 15 points — 1-2-3-4-5) When there is a tie, it goes to the 6th runner. Whatever team has the best placement from their 6th runner, wins! So yesterday our #6 was Kate Roberts ... and she was better than Williams and Utley's #6 runners which gave us the WIN!
One thing to note — the times are a bit fast because the course was short. It was about 1.8 instead of a full 2 miles. We had to cut it a bit to avoid the mud. For our next meet we will run the full course!
