Sorry I'm a little late on this email — last week we had a lot going on at the high school with 5
of our athletes signing on Wednesday and our Banquet on Thursday. Congratulations to our amazing Leopard
harriers on an outstanding first meet!
Both girls teams ran great and took the TEAM wins!! In Cross Country, the top 5 runners score points for
the team. The lower the score, the better. The places of the top 5 added together to get your overall
score. So if you were to get 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th, you would have a perfect score of 15
points.
The 7th grade girls scored an amazing 20 points!!!
The 8th grade girls scored 39 points!! CLICK HERE for the
full results from all races.
Madison Simpson - 5th (after coming off of a 3-week injury!!)
Josie Roberson - 9th
** side note — our next 3 runners were 11th, 12th and 13th to complete the win! (Leila Bailey,
Zoe Manley, and Kate Robertson) These girls will be really working hard over the next few weeks to
get in the top 10 at the District meet on December 5th!
I'm looking forward to watching all of these Leopards continue to grow and impact our HS team soon!
Please let me know if you need anything or how I can help your daughter have an awesome experience
in this sport!
Fast and Happy Runners!

The middle school races will begin at 10:40 AM. Parents will need to bring runners to the meet this
weekend. Please have your runner at the meet no later than 9:00 AM. Once you park in the spectator
parking area, your runner will need to meet Coach Vaughn at the team camp area (CLICK HERE for map
—
red star will be the location of our team camp). Coach Vaughn will issue each runner their assigned race
bib and get the teams warmed up. The race will be a 1.5-mile race. When the race is over, parents may
take your runner home.
What to bring to the meet:
Wear uniform.
Wear running shoes. More experienced/serious runners can bring cross country racing spikes if you

WSMS XC — Update
This weekend we have a 4-day weekend. Your runner needs to do a long run (30-35 minutes) this weekend
and a 20-minute run on their own on Monday next week. Please help encourage your runner to get out and
run this weekend!
Practice next week will be Tuesday - Friday at 7:15 AM. Thursday we will do a 1-mile time trial on the
track! This will help us know where each runners current fitness level is at and help give each runner
more motivation to keep working hard!
Lovejoy XC Fall Festival, 9.16.23
Please put this date on your calendar. We will want as many Willow Springs runners to participate as
possible. CLICK HERE to sign up your runner if they are able to attend.
WSMS XC Update
We hope that everyone had a great first week of school!
Practices will start on Monday! Please make sure to let your runner know not to be nervous or
intimidated if they haven't been running much (or at all). We will ease them in steadily and have plenty
of time to get them where they need to be to compete.
Coach Naeco Vaughn (naeco_vaughn@lovejoyisd.net) will be our go to coach for Willow Springs Cross
Country this year. Coach Littlefield and I will be working closely with the middle school kids as well.
If you ever have questions feel free to reach out to any of us.
Please check Rank One to make sure your athlete has all required paperwork completed. Athletes who do
not have a physical or athletic paperwork complete will not be able to practice.
We will meet at the trophy case near the gym each morning. Runners should be dropped off before
practice (7:00 AM - 7:10 AM) to put their backpack in locker rooms. Drop athletes off behind Willow
Springs and enter the back door in between the gym area and football field.
Runners will sign in each day for attendance after putting their bags in the locker room. Sign in
sheets will be located at the concession stand counter between the locker room and trophy case
area.
Locker Rooms
Athletes will shower and get ready for school each day in the locker rooms when practice is
completed. Runners need to bring their own shower items and towel each day. Runners will be
responsible washing all items this year. Runners will be able to grab items after school if needed
to take home to wash.
If your runner has not yet been given a locker we will help assign a locker on Monday.
Issues with lockers — We have submitted a work order for lockers that will not close fully or
have trouble opening. We will help reassign a locker if that is needed.
Dual Sport Athlete
Is your runner playing football or volleyball in the fall? Please reach out to us to let us know and
we will work to balance practice schedules. We want athletes to be able to do all the sports they
would like to pursue.
LISD / UIL Required Paperwork for Athletics
Please check Rank One to make sure your athlete has all required paperwork completed. Athletes who
do not have a physical or athletic paperwork complete will not be able to practice.
All runners will need to have a new UIL Physical form completed and turned in by the first day
of school. If you did not attend the mass physical session at LHS please CLICK HERE to print off the UIL Physical form. You will need to
schedule a physical with your doctor and have them complete that form.
All parents will need to complete the ONLINE PAPERWORK HERE for your runner. This is an easy process you can
do today if you have not already completed it.
Lastly, if you runner has not completed the SWAY Test (a concussion baseline test), they will
complete this with the athletic training staff during practice time.
What to Bring to Practice Each Day
All runners need to bring the following items for practice:
Water bottle with water.
Running shoes, running watch, shorts and t-shirt. This year WSMS Athletics will have athletic
clothes that all athletes will need to purchase. It is a Red One Standard T-Shirt and you need
to wear your own pair of black shorts. If you purchased your athletic gear already, your gear
has already been placed in your assigned locker at Willow Springs.
Shower Items and Towel. School clothes for after practice. Runners will have time to shower and
get ready for school in the locker rooms once practice is completed.
