The course for the Melissa meet was nowhere near a full 3200m (more like 1½ miles).
Individual times and finishes were not provided for the Area meet.
LHS at UIL 5A State XC Championships
General
today marked Lovejoy's 6th double podium appearance with the girls placing 2nd and the boys winning
1st
weather was overcast, low 70s, 7 mph breeze — quite comfortable for running
construction in the park caused some course changes which flattened out the middle part of the
course
good parent turnout, and LISD Superintendent Katie Kordel and LHS Principal Justin Wieller awarded
the medals and trophies to the Lovejoy runners and coaches
Lovejoy finished behind Comal Smithson Valley and ahead of Aledo by a score of 54-97-145; the
girls order of finish was 5-17-23-35-27 (29-52) in a race with 148 finishers
Lady Leopards wanted the 4-peat, but that was optimistic considering the runners who graduated from
last fall's 3-peat championship
Lovejoy girls did very well just by getting on the podium at State this fall — quite an
accomplishment
Lovejoy beat 3rd place Aledo who we've been keeping an eye on all season (Aledo was the girls main
challenger last fall at State)
Smithson Valley won 1st coming out of nowhere — they didn't even register in the CCCAT
top-10 rankings until the 3rd poll on 11-Sep
Smithson Valley peaked at State with 2 of their top-5 runners hitting PRs and another 2 of their
top-5 within 5 seconds of a PR; all of the Smithson Valley top-5 runners finished before Lovejoy
could get its #2 in (this race was not close)
only 1 of Smithson Valley's runners is a senior, so they should be back near the top next fall
Cam Benson finished 9th overall and received an individual top-10 medal
Bridget was #2 for Lovejoy before Campbell led in the scoring pack with Sofia and Sophie
Lovejoy's 1-5 split time was 1:01.1, but Smithson Valley had a 0:53.3 and Aledo's was 2:21.5
Boerne Champion junior Elizabeth Leachman won the individual title by 52.8 seconds
Lovejoy finished ahead of Boerne and Frisco Wakeland by a score of 77-137-153; the boys order
of finish was 3-8-10-23-33 (35-49) in a race with 151 finishers
this was the boys 5th State championship, and one that Coach Kelly forecasted 5 years ago
another unexpected order of finish with only Will Carlson where you expected him to be
scoring started with Tristan, Will, and Joey all finishing in the top-10 in scoring; neither of the
other 2 podium teams had a single runner in the top-10 in scoring
then a wait to see who of the remaining 4 would close out the scoring; turned out to be Liam and
Tyler
46.4-second split time was relatively high for the guys this season
Lovejoy's top-5 average time (16:16.1) was also higher than their season average, but comfortably
ahead of 2nd place Boerne (16:32.3) and 3rd place Friso Wakeland (16:36.4); Lovejoy boys really
were in a class of their own
Tristan Arceneau finished 9th overall and received an individual top-10 medal
Anna senior Bryce Denton (who Lovejoy has now raced against 4 times this fall) won the individual
title by 15.1 seconds
looking at the CCCAT final rankings, it's interesting how far off they were from the actual results at
State (except for listing the Lovejoy boys 1st all season long)
the Lovejoy XC girls have won their 5th Region 2 Championship in a row
since 2016 when Coach Carly Littlefield arrived at Lovejoy, the girls have risen in their Region
finishes as follows: 6th, 9th, 5th, 2nd, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st, 1st
junior Camryn Benson (1st in 18:26.07) easily won the individual championship (by 13.24 seconds over
a McKinney North runner)
senior Campbell Lester (6th in 18:52.16) and junior Bridget Bernal (8th in 18:53.23) also had top-10
finishes and sub-19-minute times
junior Sophie Brooks (11th in 19:09.86) and junior Sofia Dominguez (13th in 19:11.3) were close
behind and finished Lovejoy's scoring
all Lovejoy girls finished in the top 20 (174 finishers in the race — Region has by far
the largest fields of the UIL championship races)
even with Cam so far out front, the 1-5 split time was 45.86 seconds; Bridget back in the lineup
helped
the score was lopsided with Lovejoy defeating the other 3 State qualifiers (Wakeland, Highland Park,
Frisco Reedy) by a score of 39-88-111-132
UIL 5A Region II Boys XC Championship race [5A boys results]
the Lovejoy XC boys have now qualified for State as a team for 17 seasons in a row
the boys have won the UIL 5A Region 2 Championship for 9 seasons in a row and 10 seasons
overall (LHS has only existed for 19 XC seasons)
the Lovejoy boys under Head Coach Logan Kelly are undefeated at Region
Lovejoy's top-5 runners all finished in the top-15 in scoring
split time was again low: 28.67 seconds
sophomore Tristan Arceneau (4th in scoring at 15:58.24) led the Leopards today followed by senior
Will Carlson (6th in 16:07.78)
Lovejoy's victory was sealed by the scoring pack of senior Liam Dunleavy (13th in 16:20.69), senior
Aaron Wimbish (14th in 16:22.66) and senior Jack Thompson (15th in 16:26.91)
Lovejoy significantly beat the other 3 State qualifiers by a score of 52-121-141-141 (Wakeland,
Highland Park, McKinney North)
most importantly, both boys and girls are both headed to 5A Region 2 XC Championships
perfect or near perfect scores across the board (range = 15 to 22 points)
2nd place opponents scored from 45 to 70 points
most dominant performance by the girls ever
boys actually had some decent competition, but prevailed easily
Girls Races
Varsity Girls [results]:
first 7 finishers were all Lovejoy; Cam
way out front for the individual championship; 1-5 avg of 18:57.4 — that’s 1:24.8 ahead of 2nd
place; split time of 1:00.3, not bad
JV Girls[results]: first 12 finishers were Lovejoy (best finish
since 2008 when none of the other schools brought a JV Girls squad to District); Cailee wins the
individual championship by 0.8 second over Dominique, and 5.9 seconds over Rachel Wheeler;
41.6-second split time; 28 of the first 35 finishers were Lovejoy
Boys Races
Varsity Boys[results]:
5 of the first 7 finishers were Lovejoy;
Anna runner Bryce Denton wins individual championship by 22.5 seconds over Joey; 26.9-second split
time; all Lovejoy runners in the top 14 finishers with 46 total finishers
JV Boys[results]: 5 of the top-6 finishers were Lovejoy; Arjun
wins the individual championship by 10.7 seconds over Joe O’Brien; other Lovejoy scorers were Adam
Morefield, Adam Rogers, Carter, Daxton and Knox; McKinney North’s JV looked good — potential
challenge in future seasons
Lovejoy finished 2nd out of 39 teams with a 19:54.1 average
somewhat large field with 355 girls starting the race
Bridget was back in action ... and then she wasn't; her race plan was to run 2 miles and then peel
off, which she did (good plan by coach for a recovering athlete)
Cam was 19.4 seconds behind her 2023 time, so the 1-5 split time of only 40.2 seconds is a little
skewed
nice improvements over 2023 by Campbell (23.7 seconds) and especially Jocelyn (109.8 seconds)
16:37.8 average which is about 4 seconds better than last fall
nice improvements over 2023 by Jack Thompson (62.4 seconds), Tyler (40.0 seconds) and Will (39.4
seconds)
LHS JV at Decatur Reunion Run
General
for Lovejoy, this was a JV meet, so our JV runners were running up against the Varsity squads and
higher level JV squads from other schools
17 Lovejoy girls and 15 Lovejoy boys are competing at the OSU Cowboy Jamboree on Saturday and were
not racing at Decatur this morning
the focus of this meet for Lovejoy was preparation for District and individual time improvements
the finishing places for Lovejoy's team and individual runners are not relevant
official and formatted results still coming
Girls Races
Varsity Girls (5A-6A) [results]: solid 5K time improvements from their previous season
best for Leila Bailey (46.5 seconds), Mia Reaugh (42.9 seconds), and Michaela Martin (27.3 seconds)
JV Girls (5A-6A) [results]: significant number of individual 5K time improvements on the
season — Lindsay Collins (65.2 seconds, PR?), Lucy Kraus (60.1 seconds, PR!), Kate White (44.9
seconds, PR), Berkeley Mosel (17.7 seconds), Lily Kraus (17.7 seconds, PR! — Lily has shown
major improvements in this her senior season)
Boys Races
Varsity Boys (5A-6A) [results]: solid 5K time improvements from their previous season best
for Know Tokarz (33.8 seconds) and Dylan Welch (13.1 seconds); Aiden Oye matched his previous best;
Ajay Prithiviraj back in action for his first 5K of the season
JV Boys (5A-6A) [results]: noteworthy 5K individual time improvements on the season —
Daniel Thompson (30.6 seconds), Miles McDonald (18.2 seconds, PR!)
LHS at Lovejoy XC Fall Festival
General
The course was in bad shape. So many cracks; the volunteers worked exceptionally hard on Friday to
compensate — 120 bags of mulch; but it's hard to battle Mother Nature; pray for some good
rains before District; that said, none of the Lovejoy runners suffered foot or ankle injuries.
The weather cooperated greatly; we were expecting higher temperatures, but toward the end of the
Varsity races, an ESE wind blew in with some relief that kept the temperature down; humidity still
hovered in the 60% to 70% range.
The Lovejoy XC Fall Festival has become one of the most competitive XC meets in all of Texas;
arguably only NXR South is more competitive; the coaches and volunteers executed flawlessly.
In comparing times, the Myers course is much more difficult than any other the Leopards face all
season; so performance comparisons should only be made with prior runs at Myers; the unofficial
estimate is that the Myers course was longer than 5K today (exact distance TBA).
Girls Races
Varsity Girls Elite [results]: solid showing by Lovejoy finishing
3rd; as expected (by Coach L), Rogers (#1 team from Arkansas) won; and the Woodlands finished 2nd,
with Lovejoy taking 3rd (135 points) — 1:01.8 second split time (grrr!); Bridget still out;
but the nearest 5A team was #3 ranked HP in 8th place (225 points) with #5 ranked Frisco Wakeland
9th (239 points); Aledo remains a concern.
Varsity Girls [results]:
Lovejoy's only victory today; Lovejoy's
#1-#4 finished quick with a slight wait for #5; big races from Dominique (2nd overall) and Kaylee
(5th overall).
Elite JV Girls [results]:
Lovejoy finishes 2nd to Eustace (#7
ranked 3A team) which ran it's #1 Varsity squad (no kidding) in a JV race; senior Mia with her best
Myers course run ever; Chloe and Lindsay also turned in very solid runs.
Boys Races
Varsity Elite Boys [results]: solid 3rd place finish (152 points)
for Lovejoy behind 6A #2 ranked Austin Vandergrift and 6A #7 ranked The Woodlands; Tristin sat out
(in addition to Caden and Devin); Coach K overloaded the race with 12 runners (the benefits of being
the meet director); nearest 5A teams were #2-ranked Wakeland (328 points) and unranked Highland Park
(467 points); 38.7-second 1-5 split time (Wakeland's split time was 42.0 seconds).
Varsity Boys [results]:
rather depleted squad with so many out
and others running up in the Elite Varsity race; still, showcase performances by Daxton, Aiden, and
Knox.
Elite JV Boys [results]:
fairly far back with only 11 Lovejoy
runners; the effects of the injuries and running up; this was Lovejoy's (depleted) #4 squad running
against most teams' #2 squad.
LHS at Southlake #1 XC Invite
General
much cooler (70°F) than last year's meet
Boys Races
Varsity Elite Boys [results]: Caden and Devin out; top-6 Lovejoy
runners finished under 16 minutes; amazing 26.0-second split time; four other 6A ranked teams and
one 5A ranked team in the race, yet guys finish 3rd
Varsity Open Boys [results]:
Joe & Arjun out front all race;
finished 4th behind Southlake Carroll's #2 squad, the #1 squad from Oklahoma 6A Deer Creek (the 2023
6A champion) and 6A Plano East
JV Boys [results]: huge field with 422 finishers; with all the
injuries, Lovejoy only ran 10 guys (short-handed); Dylan Welch and Carson Caban cracked the
20-minute mark
Girls Races
Varsity Elite Girls [results]: Bridget out; Cam with a top-5
finish; Sophie #2 for Lovejoy; finished 3rd behind #1 ranked 6A Flower Mound and #2 ranked 6A
Southlake Carroll; Aledo much closer this week — only 13 points back
Varsity Open Girls [results]: Sofia finished 1st overall; Madison
also had a top-10 finish; Lovejoy finished 3rd behind #3 ranked 6A Byron Nelson and #1 ranked 6A
Flower Mound
JV Girls [results]: Lovejoy finishes 3rd; Rosslyn Vaughn with a
top-10 finish
LHS at Marcus Coach T XC Invitational
General
Lovejoy's first 5K course of the season.
A lot of gravel on the course (slows the runners, especially those with smaller feet).
Noticeably slower 3rd mile for most runners.
Girls Races
Girls Elite Varsity [results]:
Lovejoy finished 2nd (121 points)
to CCCAT #1 ranked 6A Flower Mound (43 points); only 5 of 164 girls finished under 18 minutes;
59-second split time with Cam racing for the first time; Sophie dnf; notable other 5A teams in the
race: 4th-ranked HP (164 points), 2nd-ranked Aledo (166 points)
Girls Open Varsity [results]:
crushing victory for Lovejoy with
28 points — 2nd place team scored 109 points; 4 Leopards finish in top-10; Jocelyn Chapman
finishes 1st overall
Girls Elite JV [results]:
Lovejoy 2nd to #1 6A Flower Mound; 3 Leopards in top-10 with Leila Bailey and Mia Binnings finishing
2nd and 3rd overall
Girls Open JV [results]:
Another lopsided Lovejoy victory (33 points); 4 Leopards in the top-10; Mia Reaugh finishes 2nd
overall; 26-second 1-5 split time — Lovejoy's best of the day
Boys Races
Boys Elite Varsity [results]:
Lovejoy's top-5 not running; still
Leopards finished 5th out of a challenging 30-team field; 3 Leopards under 16 minutes; 46-second 1-5
split time; great results for August and first 5K race
Boys Open Varsity [results]:
Lovejoy muscled to the victory by a
140-150-175 score over Coppell, Northwest Nelson, and 26 other teams; great depth shown by Leopards
(again); Adam Morefield with a top-5 finish
Boys Elite JV [results]:
Lovejoy boys #4 squad running against most other teams' #2 squads, so finishing in the middle was
expected
LHS at Rock Hill Twilight XC Invitational
General
Course was only 2 miles.

race.
JV Open Girls: 1st place with 41 points over 2nd place Frisco Reedy (95 points) and 3rd
place Plano (105 points). Berkeley Mosel led finishing 3rd overall. 47-second 1-5 split time.
JV Elite Girls: 1st place with a perfect score of 15 points. Lovejoy girls took first 8
scoring finishes. 25-second 1-5 split time.
Varsity Girls: 1st place again with 32 points over 2nd place Grapevine (60 points) and 3rd
place Hallsville (146 points). Freshman were featured and scored well. 53-second 1-5 split time .
Varsity Elite Girls: 2nd place with 50 points behind 1st place Prosper (45 points) and
ahead of 3rd place Wakeland (84 points). Bridget Bernal led. 19-second 1-5 split time. Camryn Benson
did not run tonight, and Sophie Brooks ran in a previous race. Had either competed in this race,
Lovejoy would have finished 1st.
Boys
Coach Kelly did not race his top 15 runners, so the team results are meaningless (best finish of
the 3 races was 9th place). All Lovejoy runners ran up a division. Focus is on the individual times.
Boys did not have a team in the Varsity Elite Boys race.
JV Open Boys: Drew Crum improved 65 seconds over his time at the Time Trial, and Miles
McDonald improved 54 seconds.
JV Elite Boys: 63-second 1-5 split time.
Varsity Boys: 19-second 1-5 split time.

LHS Girls Camp of Champs
[from Coach Littlefield]
"We had a great week at camp! I hope the girls learned new things about the program, and I know from
talking to them that they all had a great experience and created some incredible memories. One of the
main priorities of camp is for each runner to create new friendships as well as deepening existing
friendships. In our camp wrap-up on Friday, many girls used the word FAMILY to describe our team. Our
goal is to take these connections with us this season and strengthen our total team."
"SFT CAMP CHAMPS! The "Ba Bois" scored 39 points throughout the week to take home the title!"
